Studio Moy in Palermo

Monthly appointments conceived by Giulia Monroy to experience contemporary art up close and meet artists in their workspaces.

What’s happening in Palermo tonight? Tonight, we’re doing a studio visit... If there’s one reason to see in art the possibility of looking beyond what normality sometimes imposes, then Studio Moy is the perfect opportunity to expand one’s curiosity and dedicate quality time to oneself and to others — like a necessary nourishment.

Studio Moy was born from an idea by Giulia Monroy, born in 1990 in Palermo, with a degree in exhibition and museum design, and already with substantial experience in the field as a production manager for galleries and foundations.

But since the heart wants what it wants, alongside her professional practice, Monroy launched, in November 2024, a deeply poetic — and rather unusual — initiative: a series of monthly appointments, announced via a well-known social media platform, guiding small, spontaneous groups of visitors inside artists’ studios. The goal is to foster recognition of the visual artist as a true professional, creating a “reserved” space for encounter and dialogue with the world of art.

An artist’s solitude often confines them to their studio, a private realm. Opening those doors to the public becomes an experience for both the creator and the visitor — a kind of suspended bubble where everything slows down. The frenzy of production is put on hold, and the only time that matters is dreamtime, in which art becomes a space for shared words, thoughts, and doubts — intimately exchanged with those who have chosen to turn their talent into their craft and life’s work.

Among the local and international artists based in Palermo who have joined forces with Giulia Monroy and made themselves available for studio visits are: Chantal Criniti, Giulia Sofi, Francesco Cuttitta, Genuardi/Ruta, Elias Vitrano, Marco Cassarà, and Gio Peres.

With great generosity, these artists have accepted the invitation to open a window into their creative process — and perhaps even into their inner worlds — because Studio Moy is not just another flashy, crowded art event. It is, instead, a quiet “room of one’s own,” a place to meet gently, in whispers.
