Flash Art International - No. 350 Vol.57 "Image Arena" Spring 2025
Description
Flash Art International #350 SUMMER - IMAGE ARENA explores the evolving landscape of contemporary imagery. Over the past year, global events have led to a continuous re-evaluation of themes, content, and editorial approach. This issue shifts towards a more rooted visual language, moving away from heavily manipulated digital aesthetics in favor of images that feel raw, immediate, and unindexed.
At the heart of this issue are artists deeply connected to photography and cinema, redefining photographic and cinematic narratives. Sophie Calle, featured on the cover, embodies this essence with her diaristic storytelling. A deeply intimate portrait by Joshua Woods captures Calle in her Paris studio, wearing Chanel. In a conversation with Flash Art's editor-in-chief Gea Politi, Calle reflects on her career and her exhibition "Séance de rattrapage" at Perrotin, Paris.
Jon Rafman provides a counterpoint with his video *Main Stream Media Network (2025)*, revisiting the golden age of broadcast media through the lens of today's post-digital, post-AI culture. Rafman also designed a special cover for *Flash Art*, pushing digital aesthetics further.
Other highlights include Christine Sun Kim, featured in a portrait by Joseph Kadow, discussing her multidisciplinary practice ahead of her major show at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Nat Faulkner, photographed by Oscar Foster-Kane, is also featured with an insightful essay by Anya Harrison on his ability to "sculpt with images."
In addition, the issue includes features on artists such as Tiffany Sia, Ebun Sodipo, Zazou Roddam, and many others, alongside critical dispatches, archives, and visual essays that explore the intersection of art, society, and identity.
